GERD is one of the most common secondary claims. Long-term NSAID use for a service-connected musculoskeletal condition and the medications prescribed for PTSD and depression are both well-documented causes of reflux disease.

- A service-connected primary condition or in-service event
- A medical opinion explaining causation or aggravation
How it is rated
Digestive conditions are rated under 38 CFR 4.114. Rating criteria for esophageal conditions were revised in 2024 — current criteria emphasize documented symptoms and treatment requirements.
